Presentation of the institution :
Created
in 1992 as Agro-Veterinary Institute depending on the University of Annaba. In
2002, the Institute became an autonomous University Center.
The
Department area (wilaya) of El-Tarf :
The
wilaya (Department area) of El-Tarf is situated in the North-East of Algeria in
the humid areas of Eastern Numidia of temperate climate, with a rainfall varying
between 900 and 1200 mm/an. This
wilaya spreads on 2 891,65 km2 for a population of 400000 inhabitants and
have got both economical and ecological interests.
The
plains area covers near 1259 km2
i.e. 43 % of the territory and it is the first area of production pf
processing tomato. There are almost ten plants and agro-food complexes, which
main activity is tomato processing. 52,6% of the usuable surface of the wilaya
are dedicated to annual crops with a rate of irrigation of 25%. Tomato
represents 76% of the irrigated crops.
The region includes the National Parc of El-Kala (PNEK) in which lakes, swamps and marshlands are protected by the international convention RAMSAR.
